SEC Announces Roundtable on Financial Surveillance and Privacy
USA: SEC Schedules Roundtable on Financial Surveillance and Privacy
A roundtable focused on financial surveillance and privacy is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET at the Securities and Exchange Commission’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. The event, organized by the SEC’s Crypto Task Force, aims to explore how emerging technologies can reshape surveillance practices while safeguarding civil liberties.
Event Overview
Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, who leads the Crypto Task Force, emphasized that “new technologies give us a fresh opportunity to recalibrate financial surveillance measures to ensure the protection of our nation and the liberties that make America unique.” The roundtable will feature opening remarks from SEC officials, followed by two moderated discussion panels.
Panelists and Topics
The first panel, running from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., will be moderated by Yaya J. Fanusie of the Crypto Council for Innovation and the Aleo Network Foundation. Participants include Jill Gunter of Espresso Systems, Zooko Wilcox, founder of Zcash, and executives from Aleo Network Foundation, Digital Asset, and Predicate. They are expected to address the intersection of privacy‑enhancing cryptography and regulatory oversight.
The afternoon session, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., will reconvene the same moderator and feature representatives such as Katherine Kirkpatrick Bos of StarkWare, Carole House of Penumbra Strategies, and leaders from Digital Self Labs, the Blockchain Association, and the American Civil Liberties Union. The discussion will broaden to consider the impact of surveillance tools on market integrity and individual rights.
