FTC Launches Refund Process for Unauthorized NGL Subscriptions
USA: FTC Launches Refund Process for Unauthorized NGL Subscriptions
Refund Claims Now Open
Consumers who were charged for the NGL Pro subscription without their consent can submit refund claims, according to an announcement from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Background of the Enforcement Action
In July 2024, the FTC and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed a complaint alleging that NGL Labs and two co‑founders engaged in deceptive practices, including sending fabricated messages that appeared to originate from real users and marketing the service to children and teens.
Settlement and Penalties
The complaint resulted in an order that bans the defendants from offering anonymous messaging apps to individuals under 18 and requires a $4.5 million payment to fund refunds for affected users.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, claimants must have paid for NGL Pro between January 2022 and July 2024 and experienced unauthorized charges. Claimants must be at least 18 years old, or a parent or guardian must submit the claim on behalf of a minor.
How to File a Claim
Eligible consumers can file a claim online at www.ftc.gov/NGL. The claims window remains open until April 6, 2026, after which the FTC will review each submission before determining eligibility.
Refund Amounts
The amount of each refund will depend on factors such as the total number of approved claims and the specific circumstances of each case.
